These Lies I Tell Myself.A Poem by nora"Our conversations are circles, always one-sided." Haligh Haligh A Lie Haligh, Bright Eyes.
These Lies I Tell Myself.
Hello, stranger.
We meet again.
It seems I run in to you
Every time I look in a mirror.
You seem oddly familiar.
Like someone I used to know,
A long, long time ago.
But I can’t seem to place you.
I feel sorry for you.
You seem sad,
Just so desperately sad.
Like you have no one.
I wonder what sort of things
You’ve done,
To end up looking like that,
With eyes that are dead.
Your skin is too pale,
Your face too gaunt.
You seem like you used
To be pretty.
Maybe before you did
All the things you must have done?
Maybe one day,
You will speak back to me.
But for now,
You just repeat everything I say.
