As All Things Must

As All Things Must

A Poem by nora
"

'stay awake through the summer like we own the heat' - soco amaretto lime, brand new

"

As All Things Must

Ah, the relief of shade,
Under this friendly apple tree.
Cool grass and wild daisies,
Soft under my fingertips.

Oh! A blue bird alights
On his favorite branch.
It stretches for the sky,
Hopeful and blithe.

The heat and the sun,
Both unbearable and welcomed.
The cloudless sky,
Blue as this bird.

Animals come and go,
Some stopping to quench thirst,
Others for the joy of frolicking
In the slow but steady stream.

And others still come
To sit with blue bird and me.
They stare at this strange pairing,
pondering whether or not to join.

Oh! Here comes one now.
Look, over there at stream.
A deer approaches,
Seeking relief for its dry throat.

Spindly yet elegant legs,
Carry our friend closer.
Her large eyes study us,
Deciding we're harmless.

She bends down,
Taking a quick drink,
And, with a glance back at us,
She lopes into the undergrowth.

But alas! The sun,
It sinks below the horizon,
This summer of magic,
As all things must,

Comes to an end.
