Just Another Egg On The Edge: The True Unfortunate Stories- Of Mr. Dumpty

Just Another Egg On The Edge: The True Unfortunate Stories- Of Mr. Dumpty

A Poem by DearSweetAgony

7 days a week and all days to think...

Even the days that were off he still had many thoughts.

Just thinking....

Just reasoning ....

Just contemplating....

All thoughts no voices, why, that could drive a man insane.

But it seems as if everythings okay in Mr. Dumpty's brain.

Only pondering....

Only considering....

Only meditating....

One day the thinking stopped,

And actions replaced his thoughts.

He puzzled and fussed for days and days

Until, he decided there was only one way.

Just planning....

Just arranging....

Just organizing....

He walked to the top of a buliding, up to 30ft tall.

He prayed to God and then he began to fall.

Only cracking....

Only breaking....

Only falling....

All of the people came to see what happened to poor Mr. Dumpty

No one tried to put him together again, he was just another egg on the edge.

I think you used Humpty Dumpty as a metaphor for something else here. The way I understand it, it's the stress of everyday life, the things which people have to bear with, and keep inside, unable to say it to anyone, just thinking about things, what they could do, and what they would do, and what they should do, but never truly do it.
Of course, poems like this can be understood in many different ways, this is only one way.
Beautiful poem, with greater depth and meaning than it shows.

I was expecting this to be a light-humoured piece with a serious undertone, but in fact it was quite the opposite with a serious message being portrayed throughout.

i was actually able to fit this into reality and how some people just give up and others just dont even give there leaving a second thought. you really nailed it.

This poem seemed "cute" to me in the beginning, but as I read along I realized that you had tapped into a very crucial social situation in our society. I must admit to you that I have NEVER once considered Humpty Dumpty's social status. The King's guard rushed in to save him. Here you really brought to light a serious issue about how the people on the wrong side of the socio/economic status do not always get the same treatment they deserve.

On the other side of the coin...it is a reminder about the tragic stories where people are crying out for help in their behavior, but no one seems to notice. After they take their lives...their loved ones then go down a list as long as their arms about how the person was acting out of character. truly sad. I thoroughly enjoyed this poem because you triggered a lot of relevant thought in my mind. Thanks for keeping us grounded.
