A Poem by Rae

Today, I had an experience
like no other.

I got to school,
excited for once.

I knew what was coming.
I had a new schedule.
At least, as far as electives go.

I had waited so long
just for one single class:
Teacher Aide.

Not just any teacher.
More like a class, really.
Life Skills class, to be exact.

I had waited for at least twelve weeks.
Now, it's here.

I knew what to expect.
I was still surprised.
They're so...
Smart.

I had known one since I was in kindergarten.
Let's call him... Baseball.

Every five minutes or so, as I sat next to him,
a sweet smile was flashed my way.

The next I was working with, we'll call...
Star.

Every time I waved when I was introduced to the students,
she smiled widely and waved back, "Hi!"

The third, we'll call... Well, I've nothing to call him.
He didn't really talk. Just... work.

Not my point, still.

All day I've been in an excellent mood.
All because of three people.

Honestly, the worst a person can do...
Is judge.

Just because someone is different, doesn't make them bad or a loser.
The three people I met today... Are some of the nicest I've ever met.

Give everyone a chance.
