Contacts

Contacts

A Chapter by Rae

"Well, these have very nice color, Haley. Oh, but so do those..."

        "Mom?"

"What? Oh, sorry. I'm considering buying myself a pair of these things."

        "You so should!"

"Really? I thought it would be thought of as uncool for a mom to get colored contacts."

"No, it would be so cool! It's only weird and embarassing if it's an old mom."

"Oh. Well, which ones are you thinking about?"

"I like these two. Ma'am, could you please pull them out for me?"

"Whatever suits your fancy. Are you sure you wouldn't like a different pair?"

"Yes, I'm sure." She obviously had a different style than me. It was probably because she was British.

"Haley, I'm not sure I like these. They look more for Halloween than everyday use."

"Mom, that's the point. And my light green eyes will make it easier for them to give the full effect. Plus, half my friends have them."

"Do you really expect me to believe that half of your friends' mothers let them buy contacts that make your eyes look like you only have a cat's-eye pupil?"

"No. No I did not. That's why I got them all to send me pictures. That's Nate, Shannon, Keira, Mike, Layna, Mason, Har-"

"Okay! That's enough. You can get them. And these I'm alright with, too."

"Seriously? You were hesitant on the white ones but all for it on an identical pair, only with a green iris?"

"Yes, because the green actually have an iris. Now you can get one more pair."

"I want these silver-gray ones. Are they okay?"

"Yeah, I guess. Kat, do you want a pair, too?"

"No, I don't. I want another bear from the store that you make them in."

"Okay. Haley, will you take her over there? I'm going to pay for these."

        "Yes, ma'am. Come on, Kat."
