Consequence

A Chapter by Rae

"Mom, wake up! I made coffee for the trip to the mall!"

        "Why?"

        "Contacts?"

        "Oh, right, right."

        "I'll go help Kat."

        "Okay. I'll hurry for you."

        "Thanks, Mom."

"Anytime, sweetie. Now go get your sister and yourself dressed."

"She can dress herself. She just likes me to help her pick out an outfit."

"She can dress herself now? Since when?"

"Two months ago. You were on a drunken streak. I wouldn't expect you to remember. Don't worry, Mom, I don't judge." A saddened look crossed her sweet face and I felt a pang of guilt. Had I been too harsh in my tone? Oh, well, she would know that I still loved her no matter what.
