As it Stands

As it Stands

A Poem by Deandra Dawn

As it Stands

It had been an unsettling
attraction
seasoned with a yearning
to thrive and persevere
a culmination of years of
covetous aspirations
falling into the shallow end
of the darkened
spectrum of
misgiving-
misleading
a sultry reduction
of ruby
hell
frozen in ice
and left to
melt away from the heat
of your
agonizing stare

If only we could control those "unsettling attractions"...

This is the longest sentence. It is meant to be this way, no? Anyways, thanks for sharing. I liked it better than the other.

A very interesting piece for sure. I love the line "seasoned with a yearning to thrive and persevere", it makes me think of lots of things.

Quite enjoyable, I feel as though I'm reading a chef's recipe for soup. A la lover's Detest! Though I imagine that was your intention with descriptors such as seasoned, and mentions of reduction. It's actually quite interesting to think of relationships as recipes, and I applaud you for giving me something interesting to ponder.

An enjoyable read!

A scene from a hotel hallway, rooms, stares and asking of questions, like: "Should I open the door and invite them in?"
