The Tarnished Knight

neglect

He rode his valiant steed 

to capture the fair maiden

who was dewy-eyed

heart heavy laden.

He swept her off her feet

promising always and forever

sweet roses and dreams

but would they come true, ever?

The longer she waited 

for her happy ending

the more she noticed

his shining armor needed mending.

He didn't seem to tend 

to the things in his care

and she was afraid 

this was the fate 

she would now share.

Hopes now were tarnished

dreams had been shredded

lost and alone now

the very things she had dreaded.
