The Forgotten Puppy

The Forgotten Puppy

A Poem by Daytonight
"

Neglect

"
A little boy once had
a puppy whom he loved dearly
and at first
he tended to that puppy
so very well.

He fed her
played with her
took her for walks
lavished her with affection.

But gradually
the newness wore off
although he professed
he still loved the puppy
he began to neglect her
more and more
bit by bit
until one day
she began starving
not only physically
but from his lack of
affection.

One day he came home
from playing with friends
and he called and called
his beloved puppy,
but she didn't come running
so he started looking for her
and he finally found her
where she had died
alone
feeling unloved
and unwanted
now
he was
alone.

Seems to me that this is not about a puppy at all sis and that a certain man should start paying more attention to the heart he holds as she is feeling unappreceiated, you are penning poetry like my earlier one about the puppy and the chew toy remember. Beautifully creative but terribly sad. Buck up I am sure you will still find your happy ending. Keep em' coming

I know better than most of my friends what that feels like. im actually going through it again right now. Love is a very difficult feeling to understand especially to those who think its a word. I still believe in happily ever afters too. and this poem in a way is a happily ever after if you think of it in a certain way. even though the puppy died she got his attention back. Good Job, keep up the great work! :)

This poem is full of emotion and truth. It draws a significant parallel to human relationships faltering in the wind. A very well written poem I enjoyed reading!

I agree with inyourshadow, this doesnt seem to be abt a puppy at all. Great use of symbolism because I understood while reading that this puppy was a representation and I didnt need author's note to clarify. Good write
