My Friend Shin*

My Friend Shin*

Shin is a much older person than I am,

Though he'll deny it, simply by his enthusiasm.

I first came to be intimated of him in my youth,

Some leftover from a Brit experience in my celt,

He spoke to the kid that I was, joked laughed,

Like any regular person. I liked the fella but the accent,

Convinced me that I was picking it up on TV, the movies or something,

Well, thirty years later he's still around, showed me the world,

Said it took a stout heart and hell-bent will to understand him.

But he's also the gentlest of persons I ever met,

While I'm reading the Vedas and Vedanta, Shin selects his books

From Pinnochio, Sleeping Beauty, Oz, Peter Rabbit and the like.

He tells me its a matter of view and that someday soon,

I may have to tie together Pinnochio with Vedanta,

That the whole world may have to do that someday.

I suppose I could find a connection, but it'll rattle many a bone,

Shin and I are opposites, completely. I'm human,

He tells me he may be the genus of a future species,

That has a greater humility than man, therefore more intelligent,

He says he connects with the rocks, trees and women,

And knows their will. He says the highest evolved species

Has the mind of a child in the universe, fears nothing, favors none,

Lives in a body that is bisexual and is a universal traveler,

Traveling the path of creation from the day it began,

Simply to marvel at the genius of it all. Vanity, that's Shin!

Now I realize why I'm human. Its easier dealing with the facts.

When Shin and Bidyah finally integrate I hope they will form an entity who is easier to understand.

This may put to doubt the saying, ' the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.' Certainly, a side to human nature that is new in the world. I guess its like flying cars...its finally here and I believe, so is the future!

It takes time, effort, and knowledge to so fully position a person within the framework of our assumptions. Wanting them to fit doesn't mean that they will, especially decades down our paths. The closeness you have empowered lives on after the ghosts have gained sway.

I envy you that friend Sri... such closeness is rare.

Well written sir.
