Two Worlds

Two Worlds

A Poem by Dayran

Grandpa speaks to himself, to the sculptures,

But he is not without some entertaining company.

I'm here I guess, plus the mongoose couple in the loft,

A neigborhood cat, with yellow eyes that sits quietly

Near the staircase and listens. The squirrel that dashes in and out,

The magpies, jays, mynahs and budgies add to the melee.

The dog next door that joins in with his own input,

And the mango tree in the garden that drops a fruit on the roof

At the most poignant moments. The lizards on the ceiling,

Voice their ticky sound when grandpa is in doubt about something.

It creates a convincing argument that all is well in the world,

That the marbles are back in place and the voices of children loud.

The kid goes out to the cafe to keep contact with his friend in Rome,

A new song, poem that says a thing or two. He worries

About the youngest in the family. She's trying to put it together,

And figure out what the world is about or is saying to her,

Learning takes time....meanwhile, there's the coffee shop next door.
