The Child and The SatyrA Poem by Dayranby DaranInnocence on one hand and untamed lust on the other, The child, a Cambrian to the aging monarch of the woods, An evolution from the anima to civilized man in society, The satyr draws from the innocence, its power of thought. Is thereafter impatient with the ways of the child, consensual, Tosses the kid aside and strides out to prove its mettle. Builds empires, roads, viaducts and the eventual faith. And old relationship that continues for some ages, Till the excesses of the father, as satyr, destroys its creation, The child responds and brings down Goliath with a stone, That stone, taken from the earth, a lesson to Goliath on reality, For all of one's thoughts, lofty and incredible serve not the need, Where a simple act of charity is that which moves the world. The Kings give way to the democratic idea, the child's ideal, A democracy that is defended against the satyr's revival, A life that may be given at society's call to arms, A way, a will that we call life, its norm and daily routine.
