EGO

EGO

A Poem by Dayran
"

Not quite I

"

A much maligned word in recent times,

But has not been named for what it is.

It began as the 'I' of the universe,

Teaching man to view his self with dignity,

Through evolution, became the fruit of giving,

The concern of mother for the young,

The role of the leader in society.

By its light, it illuminated the mind,

Showed our relations with each other,

Named our oneness, as equals in the eye of god.

Became the manager when the world became bigger,

Caused to be complex, confused, self referencing,

Thereafter, self effacing, self critical, to repair the faults.

Is still the object of light that frames the mind.

From the 'I' of nature, it teaches us today the 'I' of the human,

Loving, caring, responsible, the strides of civilization.

As the world grows, so does our egos, to built a greater mind,

To live our truths, to keep to our words. Ever striving,

It searches for the better person it knows it is,

Find it, it will or bust trying. The die is cast.

Maligned in its universal 'I', it rises like the firebird,

To create, define and cultivate the man of today,

The one who is nature, the ego, mind and 'I'.

My Dear Writing Friend,
A write worthy of many hours, no days, of musing. You have with this jewel shed light on a concept lost in the sands of time. My prayer is we as a global family, will find a balanced mix of ego, mind, love, humility, and I. A blend that will benefit us all on this celestial ship known as Earth. Thank you for sharing this work.

Blessings, Laughing-Bear
