Before the Deluge

Before the Deluge

A Poem by Dayran
"

The Dream of the One in Times Past

"

In the lands of the frozen north

One encounters a most curios moth.

This one's huge, the size of a giant

Like the beginning, the age of Orion.

I am the one, your inner being, it says

I, the one, you'll be someday.

A social self that is also the individual me

Why a king no doubt, why spare the gratuity?

An ancient but enduring heritage it be

That we today, take for a habitual deed.

Far from the mind of the plain householder

Imprisons the rational, for it needs the wonder.

Not yet prepared to handle the ordinary

Not without a reward that's salutary.

To discern what's in it for me

Every act it appropriates, for a little fee.

The pleasure principle, its law to be

Not yet the social dharma of equality.

Whence do we create for all to agree?

And living free with regard to everybody.

Hoping then for such an event

           Sometime in the future then.

When all is one and the one is all

I'll be content to be me, if that's all.
