BullflingA Story by DayranWatch your stepI've had days when magic and logic … came together in close proximity in my mind … and on each of these occasions … it felt like a sink hole … that had no bottom. It apparently takes place in cycles … over a lifetime … but I was pleasantly surprised at the way … it met up this time … to explain the sinkhole … and to refine itself to greater coherence. The result is something I have termed ' Bullfling ' … in keeping with the sentiment of the issues.
Picture an Abo throwing a boomerang … and watch as it swerves in the air … and returns back to him. It appears to me … the experience of magic … is not very different from such a phenomenon. And what happens when magic meets with magic? You guessed it … a sinkhole. However the situation is not without some recompense … in the way it points to the peculiar nature of mind and the passions … and cultivates a new perspective in the individual … as regards the experience of the self.
Among the practitioners of magic … there's none more adept in the art … than the arts of Vodun. I am convinced that its a valid culture … among the world's cultures … and brings itself to be a part of the world's experience. It understands the boomerang nature of magic … but is often mystified in the way the boomerang is grabbed by someone else … before it returns to the thrower. And that someone else bears a remarkable relation to the thrower.
Our understanding of it … starts oddly enough in the inherited experiences man has from the days of Cro-magnon. What Cro-magnon came to attribute to himself as the doer of actions … finds a peculiar treatment. One man creates a description of himself in relation to another. He does that by thought … sight … and relations. We all do that … its the way we reflect upon another … in that which we attribute to ourselves.
In the course of evolution … our self attribution became associated with the body … and the reflection of the other … a part of the mind. Hence the mind brings a greater objective nature to our activities … as compared to the passion … that views itself … the originator of our impulses … forms an obsessional nature … that creates a strong hold on the passions … as its own. In bringing the two together … a man encounters a curious double … that can be very perplexing.
At the point of encounter between magic and logic … a man experiences a curious sensation of … how the world seems to be relating to itself … in an experience I have termed as … itself for itself. However when a man takes to some responsibility … and is forced to identify himself with mind … he observes himself … as having become one part of the … itself for itself … and is thereby relating to the world … and his physical environment … in a seemingly acquiescent experience of acceptance.
Its the experience of the Yin Yang … Sivan Sakthi … the waltzing couple on the dance floor … in a life in which … love … or true love … makes the world go round. Its a valid experience in the lives of many … and we are often treated to glimpses of its occurrence … in royalty … or in fairy tales … romance novels … and sometimes … in the stories of the suburban life … that does it with a raised brow about the experience.
The variations from it are considerable … and stories of the Svengali … the Indic Kalvan … the Italian Cassanova … and other extensions of the experience rebound from around the world … in the daily news. However … in the event of a break in the relations … the man … is forced to draw a line between the twin experiences … the way its been … personified in the male and female … to something else. And here … the student of human nature … applies himself to studying the phenomenon … and to substitute for his part … knowledge of the experience … as it relates to its other part … the magic.
I expect that it would be the culmination of the experience of humanity … to arrive at such a point … where a man in the possession of understanding … relates to a woman in identification with magic … and for them to undertake a discourse with each other … that is more stable than the one they had before. And it makes me wonder whether that is the reason … we apply ourselves to the throes of its trials … to prepare ourselves for such an eventual achievement.
I wish I could say … the twin experience of magic-magic … with no other refinement … is an experience of cows … but it would obviously lack validation. But Indic references to Sri Krishna as the cowherd of Brindavanam … persuades me that such is the case. Krishna in Sanskrit means … black … and I can't help but feel the hand of the African in the legend … in the way he might have sponsored the perceptions of the legendary tale.
In the medical condition … ' bi-polar disorder ' … we find the curious statement about … the inability of the individual to relate to others. That to my mind … hints at the close resemblance of two things in the life of the individual and the world … as if it is a case of having substituted the individual … in one part of the experience of the … itself for itself. But human insight points … and its for the professionals to pursue … such intimations … if relevant.
Lewis Carroll's … Through the Looking Glass … certainly brought a perspective to the issue … as did … The Picture of Dorian Gray … by Oscar Wilde . I am familiar with the afflictions associated with the experience … and have been handling it my whole life. It helps to move out from the safe house of the personal … and bring ourselves into open society and the world … in order to re-cultivate … the experience of … I and the world. Its certainly helped me … and in many ways … is helping me to re-discover life … love … and the mysteries of creation.
I'm withdrawing my usual biases … from notions of magic … and the way I might have viewed it in my times of trial … as bulls**t. However … the stigma of what it was … especially in the way … I might have represented the experience myself when young … continues to riddle me. I have therefore termed it … ' Bullfling ' … in bringing it to a renewed acceptance in the social experience. It has a curious ring to it … bullfling and logic … what a pair! © 2015 Dayran |
