Magic and Aggression

"

I lost my scissors. Its a big one … with red handles. I don't care too much for the loss … but then I've always been careful … where I put anything and I'm sure I put it on the table. But its gone now. Nobody else came to my room. So I went through a trauma … of thinking it disappeared … because I can't give a rational explanation for the loss. Then again I'm going through an angst … about things lost … gone … things that we loved or formed an attachment to.

Then I suddenly found myself thinking about things … that are deeply personal to us … where the loss sometimes extends itself to love. In my case … it was about … the rationality of physical experiences. A scissors cannot get up and fly away. That is a little upsetting to my commitments to the rational and logic … but hey … if it was a case of magic … then I am calling all bets off. I am however viewing magic as an … extraneous factor … in relation to logic. Its like mammals first appearing on the world's landscape … or the disappearance of dinosaurs.

Cro-Magnon. Talk about the personal. Here was a man … who needed a cave to live in … found a cave … and thought … I wanted a cave and a cave appeared. Went hunting … looking for deer … and found deer … and said … it was because he wanted deer. How else would a man … untrained on concepts … view anything … other than in relation to his physical person. And where did he store such feelings of self determinative wishes? According to JRR Tolkien … it is in a place called Helm's Deep … the core of the being of the King. I've termed it … liberal confidence.

In the Indic account of creation … the great mother Goddess … Athi Parasakthi … in an exercise of the magic of creation … tossed her ear-ring into the air and created the heaven and the earth. Then she waved one hand … and animals appeared … then she waved her other hand … and man appeared. And from where … may I ask did she come to such insights? Obviously the stored personal experience of Cro-Magnon … brought to mind … by the Neolithic … to the hand in the Iron age and perhaps the rich dreams of the Irish leprechaun.

Hence in viewing the content of the human mind today … we find in it … the remnant of our past … sometimes expressed as … an Ammon … or the Christ … or a Siva. How do we relate to that? It helps to cultivate an objective … scientific view. Or perhaps … in recovering from a fall … we rise again to return on the route … that arose naturally in the course of the evolutionary process. Such is the view I have come to have of magic … combined in our tissues … then interned in the passionate expressions of the heart … and the termed perceptions of the mind.

The difference between magic and logic … is sometimes … referred to as the difference between a …  child ( Jiva ) and a man … especially in the way … the mind perceives its activity.  Magic professes a selflessness … but relates to the mind … for its notions of personality of being. In the event that the mind … slips or is found to be gravely wrong in its perceptions of existing reality … the magic aspect … goes into a severe withdrawal from everything. And we are left wondering … what happened to our … feel good … about ourselves.

The view would find an application in psychology … where the Id relies on the pleasurable responses of the libido … which is in turn reliant on the ego … for its eros impulses. In the individual's nature of the being … its perceived in his experience … as something that was grabbed by the Id … in respect of his personality … and self image. The view is supported by the Indic … depiction of Ganesha … as the ego … whose bountiful sweets … is stolen by the rat … Mousigan … in psychology … as the Id.

In engaging the personality … of the stolen sweets … the Id comes to resemble the ego … which is the manifest … experience of the ego … in the world. And in doing so … the two sides … magic and logic … come to a greater consistency of relation to each other. This phenomenon in the world's experience … brought Cro-Magnon man … into the age of the Neolithic … and then into the iron age. Today in the age of reason … we find the source of the ego … in our ability to re-cultivate the mind.

In both the theories of Freud and Marslow … we find references to the concept of … self actualization … which is a suggestion of the self made perception of the human individual … that is presented as the height of achievement by human motivation … in its quest for fulfillment. But all these … doesn't explain whether I'll get my scissors back … but does suggest … the nature of experience in life … in which that … which is lost today … may turn up again someplace else. And that I hope gives comfort to my many experiences of loss … bundled up into suggestions of despair.

I don't suppose any of what I'm saying here … comes close to intimations of scientific reasoning … but then science is still grappling with dreaming and its application to logic. I figure … in coming up with answers to life's riddles … we are inevitably drawn deeper into living life … and tweaking on scientific principles in order to do that. The end result is certainly in the taste of the pudding ... and more than medication ... we find that a person would need a little magic to recover from a depression episode.

I'm pleased to note that … the point of rationality … is where magic meets logic … like when boy meets girl. It refers to a relevance to life … and the living … and it promises something in the way our families and societies are organized. Edward Scissorhands … may yet find a new way … to work his hands … if he applies himself … to creating something new … rather than cutting them apart. It may well transform aggression … into the peace of solutions … especially when coming face to face … with the manifestation of the world's reality.
