A Dizzy Girdle

A Dizzy Girdle

The Olympus Family

"

I don't recall … that the story of the girdle … was informative in some way … other than the sexual implications of the pelvis … in a person's disposition. No doubt the jeans makers … have brought much into the experience … and helped accentuate the experience for the young. In these times … its an opportunity to view it again … in relation to the organization of the passions … and to take note of much that has come to pass … since the early days of Olympus.

I'm coming to a greater conviction about the role of the emotions … in the development of mind. And certainly … the passions would have begun … with the influence of the elements and weather. The Olympus legends refer to the Titans as forces of wind … earth … fire … and water … that may have combined with the passion of the man … to provide that drive to the will. Arrayed against this … were the Gods of Olympus …  whose distinction from being merely influenced by the elements … distinguished them from … the Titanic marauders.

What were the influences on the Gods of Olympus? … how did it separate them from the influences of the elements? … and what if any was their own cognition of the experience?  The legends themselves reveal much in the way of clues as to their origins. There's the mighty strength of Hercules … the horse Pegasus … and the flight of thought … that seems suggestive … of thinking. In contrast … the Titans appeared to rely on rote acceptance of conditions … and their earth bound condition to life.

How did the Olympians themselves … sever the connection with the nature of being earth bound? One explanation seems to point at … love. It appears possible … that the Olympians celebrated good looks and physique. The games of the Olympiad certainly seemed to showcase such abilities and prowess of the human physique. It accentuated the experience of beauty … in the mild Mediterranean weather.

Dionysus the God of wine … was the last Olympian personality … to be admitted into the pantheon. His advent in the last stages of the Olympus traditions … and his involvement in sex orgies reveals the nature of life … that the early Olympian dreams of love … had entered into. He is reported to have staged plays … depicting the nature of the man … and brought into prominence the qualities of the man … worthy of admiration.

In contrast … Olympus had evolved into the concept of a  … ' only the mighty shall rule ' … and preserved its quality of the physical … through the Roman conquests … Sparta … and the hero ideal. Dionysus … diverted the emphasis … into the development of mind and understanding and it threatened to derail … what Olympus sought to preserve as physical achievement. The reports that Zeus delayed … Dionysus entry into the Pantheon … may be revealing of such a situation.

In the West today … the will to showcase physical condition … rather than the tediousness of understanding … dominates the male persona. The tendency has a long arm around the world today … with guns … revolutionaries … and the growing popularity of body building gyms. Any male child born today … is conscripted into the practice … and spends a little time with the experience. My own experiences reveal much in that way … and as I review my personality in these times … it seems to point to the usual origins.

Its a point of balance between the physical and mind … and it occupies as much the contents of the passions … as an instrument of savvy … against … the possibilities of conformity to common social aims. It accentuates the individual capability … and makes of physical natures … an intimidation on the minds of the young … who are at this time … receiving a new emphasis on education and schooling. In some aspect … the gay movement may be a statement of rebelliousness … against a perceived sense of physical superiority … and the boorishness of male chauvinism.

Arraigned against all these … is the girdle of Venus … that a young man may experience … as the field of possibilities … we apply ourselves to … for alternatives. As the raw force of the sexual energies … the girdle … may have found its origin in the early light of the human experiences … before man learnt to draw in caves … or create a flute from bone. On refinement  …  the girdle … leads to a quality in the content of the passions … that stimulates the mind for thought … and expression.

Its surprising to think that … the Olympian traditions … that created the great divide with the brute … and savage might of the Titanic tribes … should have defeated its own observance of love .. as the true strength of the Olympus tradition. In its place … we encounter today the most cavil comments about the value of love in life. Perhaps its just a reaction … since ' no good deed ever goes unpunished.'

Perhaps we need a new lesson in love … one that moves away from the … ' one size fits all ' … and responds to a greater team spirit of sharing. It is the sporting attitude … that must have lit the flames at the Olympiads. It was a fine tradition … and it can be that again. Greece organizes an annual marathon on Mount Olympus every year … on the last Sunday of June. This year would make it the 11th event. And that may have all the makings of  a new beginning.
