The Stones of ShockA Story by DayranConcussion philosophyWhen a person pours boiling hot water into a glass … there's a good chance … that glass is going to break. Science explains it as … a faster rate of expansion of the internal surface … as compared to the outer surface of the glass. As an analogy regarding the … development of the human personality … this has some very useful significance … as regards our management of the self.
Soldiers returning from the wars … report the condition of ' shell shock ' … which is a term used to describe the concussed state of mind of an individual. There's considerable study on this … and each brings to our consideration … the experience of having been tossed … physically … by forces we don't fully understand. It leaves an impression in the mind … as a reminder that we are not the sole determinant of leading our life into its promises … and takes away … our free floating experience of dreams.
The study of shell shock … inevitably runs into another similar experience … in our disposition. This goes by the name ' the shock of birth.' That's when the doctor raises the kid by the feet and slaps on the backside. Its the first stimulus on the child's nervous system … and it jars the constitution of the child into breathing on his own. When shell shock meets shock of birth … it produces a powerful sensation of will … that's like a stone … and aids in the need … to carry out an enforced decision … on ourselves or others.
Indic records indicate an examination of the issue … in the manner of lived experiences and insight. Eventually they simply referred to the experience as ' stone ' or ' rock ' … and fashioned stone idols … to represent aspects of the human persona. Man was taught to provide offerings to such an object … propitiate it by praises … songs … and issues relating to love … that affirmed the relationship of man to the creative forces.
In non-Indic experiences … such shocks are vented in practices and an active physical life … and essentially exhaust the accumulated angst of consternation … before they transform into something else. A less active life … that embraces a divinity view … faces the catechism of its inquiries … emanating from the stones of shock … to found a complete transparency of issues. A working man's man's responses to it … are founded on the social and practical aspects of life. However … ' Rock ' … may seek a lot more in time to come.
Our references to the rock of ages … in relation to time … intimates that ' Rock ' may even be related to the ' Big Bang.' Hence a person following the trail of the rocks … or altered states … may encounter quite an adventure … and many do … whether or not they are able to make sense of the experience … in their cultures. In a comical way … we call the hobo or tramp … ' The King ' … on account of the freedom he enjoys … from his ties … and the way he has come to acquaint with the liberty of the mind's working. He may actually ' know ' more than he lets on.
We therefore ask ourselves … why the experience has to be severe in any way. Does it necessarily involve a break of family ties … loss of employment … a sociopath attitude … isolation … and a wobbly disposition of mind? My own experience has been very reasonable … and it occurs to me sometimes … that my instruments had planned something like this for sometime. The objective … it appears had moved from simply finding God … to one that discovers our understanding of humanity … in an expression that communicates the experience socially.
It appears to me that … the flame of life … positions itself in the middle of the stones of catechism … and flows with the words and expressions. It simply views life for what it is. In its association a sea arises … that may resemble the ' holy see ' … that is a plain view of what our life sees in our living … but it may be a little too harsh for our natures. Hence we seek the arms of the mother to protect us … or father … or a best friend. And it takes us a while before we return to the life … and share in what it sees … supported of course … by our world experience … and an army of books we have read.
In retrospect I was not much more than a school kid … when I met the Prince of the sleepless dreams. They call him by other names … but I will not get into that. It was a celt vision … and he was in his office. The furniture was sparse and I could tell he wasn't doing much paper work. I needed to meet him … and I had many questions to ask … especially on why people say he did so many evil things in the world. But I couldn't.
He had the attitude of a mid-level manager … who was swamped with work … and one look at him convinced me … that he was working very hard. I held back on my questions … and to his telepathic inquiries … I simply said … ' Things certainly look a certain way … but I'll have to look at it more.' The last thing I wanted to do was complain. He seemed pleased that I was going to apply myself more.
It could have been my imagination … but I thought I detected a certain anxiety about him. It was more than simply not trusting anyone gratuitously. I think it had to do with the fact that … I wasn't insane … was not a real child … not a woman … and not a man of the cloth intent on God's will. I think … he wondered about … why I was simply rational … with a common sense … and conscious of the influences I encountered in my life. I thought that may have something to do with overcoming my shell shock. It opens the door to self discovery. © 2014 Dayran |
