Imelda's Stone

Imelda's Stone

A Poem by Dayran
"

The Edge of Transparency - II

"

The autumn breezes brought her joy

The hint that it applauded her way

Around her fairy good tree of branches

Bare and bony in their chilled haunches.

She was doing it again her way

This time with some understanding

Of love's potion's and their magical gifts

Of themselves … their favors and wish.

She could feel her body the rhythm of life

Swaying this way and that seeking herself

Smiles she does in her knowing ways

Her body topsy turvy in repose blanched.

He comes now Imelda … do you see him?

Will you say it was all a little hasty?

What we all did previously

Now brought to paced activity.

He looks! … and me thinks he knows

Dear darling … don't you fret much

I think tis something in the air

I think we all breathe its meanings new.

And there it is! … took off his buckskin

For a dip in the body warm waters of the pool

Wait! … don't join him yet … let's take a minute

This time to do it with a mind that's cool.

He obviously thinks … you're just a stone

Here by the willowy tree of branches bare

Not seeing I'll say! How it began anew

From the stones … the gems of beaming sight.

See how the forest with memories stir

Of a time past took from the future whys

That's here again in its promise to unfold

With speech rhythmic and then to bold.

Wait dear girl! … its just autumn in here

It'll take a while to get to summer

When the sun doth say with greater clarity

Your love once here is here again fortutiously.

I really love the pace and rhythm and open-endedness of this poem. The lack of a pronounced rhyme scheme gives it a nice open-ness. You paint a great portrait of a lady.
