What is Magic?A Story by DayranLove Will PrayI used to have this recurring experience … when in a shop … to buy something I don't have a need for … and realizing … in the days that follow … that I needed that. Its happened with some frequency … and I've been putting off … reviewing the issue … for some time. I guess … today's the day.
I can only speak of my presumptions … regarding the issue … for it neither lends itself to the passionate appeals nor logic. I call it magic … and its of some significance … in human affairs … particularly … in connection with commercial activities. What I came to see … in relation to it … is the happy thought that accompanies the event.
My teen years were filled with episodes … that mirror the experience of magic. But that was guided by a powerful expectation of the future … and followed every hunch … like a possibility … that may lead on to something … that's a part of my ambitions. Since then … I've encountered a bunch of people … whose melancholy seems to indicate the loss … of such an experience … and a will that continues to long for it.
When I undertook my studies … into self realization … I lost my contact … with magic … and everything I encountered … became a dreary experience … of doing something based on knowledge … without a reliance on hunches … and wisps that float in the wake of our dreams. It took some doing … but these days I'm back to the experience of magic … and see it as significant factor in the workings of the mind.
When left alone in our thoughts … magic is like a quietly humming machine … in the top most part of the mind … and functions like a prime mover of our impulses. I first assigned it to a feel of good health … being in the pink … so to speak. But I think its more than that. I received some intimation on the issue from my guides … and I was guided to buy a soup preparation … that contained the ingredient monosodium glutamate ( msg ).
Msg … retails in these parts as the brands … aji-no-moto …
and ve-tsin. In consuming the soup … I felt an immediate lift …
to my mood … at a strong passionate level. It kept me ' high ' for
an hour or two … and then was followed by a down … that made me
sleepy. A quick check on msg … didn't reveal anything
especially significant. The element is found in several food types ... and the body is expected to contain some amount naturally. The Oriental … uses msg in their food regularly … and a meal in a Chinese restaurant … is highly likely to engage the experience. As an additive it accentuates ... the msg experience in the body. As a high it aims for the stars in its impulses … and produces a comfort in the subtle passions … that appears in some way remedial … or medicinal … as a substitute for something more real. Essentially … it briefly remedies … the ' fallen star ' effect … but otherwise interferes … with the culture … of expressing real emotion … that is consistent with human experience.
Msg has a powerful effect in enhancing the taste of food. And … in the regular use of the product in food … it produces … a response in the body … that resembles … a quirky and self possessive sense of being sexy. It is produced by the effect of the taste of the food on the body … in effect transforming the good taste into feel good … that is experienced as a deep sensuality that borders on the sexy.
I found a similar effect taking place … when I was cooking regularly on my own … and feeling an exquisite sense of joy … in food preparations undertaken by the self. I've since stopped cooking at home for about a month now … and the feeling of sexiness … the acute sensation of beauty and harmony in beauty … has slowed down considerably. It makes me miss the dishes that I cook up on my own … but I'm creating a deliberate denial of it … until … I can bring it under some regulatory guide.
My thoughts go to the occasions … with the ex-wife … when she'll groan at the suggestion of eating out … or the fact that … she won't allow me much of an opportunity to cook at home. So … what is it about handling food … that creates such an impact … or does magic come from cooking and consuming our own meals? Since I've stopped cooking … I don't get wisps for purchases at the shop.
The normal Indic … untrained at observation and understanding … has a tendency … to view magic … as being synonymous with the divine. That has grown by practice and tradition … to deny magic in his affairs and accentuate the experience of passion … as the instrument of the divine in man. However … folks around the world … who subscribe to magic in their affairs … create a greater active engagement of mind in their activities … as a normal course of life. The naming of children with the same name as the father … followed by number II … III … and so forth … would be an engagement of magic.
The term Maya … engaged both by the Hindu … and the Buddhist … is in reference to the creative forces of the universe … but the term has not produced a greater clarity … about the way it works. I took the initiative … to view it as magic and divine … and it has opened up doors in me … that I'm continuing to review for understanding. Clearly its not for everyone … but on closer inspection … reveals the work of magic and the divine … applying themselves in tandem for creation's cause. And what I wonder would anyone say about that?
