The UpanishadsA Story by DayranKnew my mother-in-law in Egypt. The Upanishads are a collection of writings … that are reported to be man's first treatise … inspired at first light … at the first opening of mind … in human affairs. It refers to a view of life conceived as mind … and as the world. The text states that … Indo-Aryan man … in possibly the first inquiry … asked ' who sent the mind to wander afar?' It was however … one mind … and it created a powerful self possession of life … that continues to this day … in man.
Thereafter the split occurred … and in the following years … the races of man began. It therefore brings me to the most curious suggestion … in my condition … about meeting the people … I once knew … in 4000 bc. I can't say that for sure of course … certainly not in the nature … of the precise identities. But human personality …. divided into many levels … has a generic stamp of consistency … in their basic natures.
I therefore figure that … where I'm in relations … with someone at a certain level … the common nuances of thought and expression … brings a strong tone of familiarity to me. That surprises me sometimes … when I discover … that my own estimate of the passions at that level … could only have been cultivated in 4000 bc. Like dating plants and rocks … it is possible to date … the origin of friendships … based on the nature of emotional link … we create with each other.
For instance … I have a hunch I knew my mother-in-law around 2000 bc in Egypt … my wife in 500 bc in the Indus … and my daughter in 8thC ce India. Its not that hard … but it helps to have a knowledge … of the many levels of the passions … and their behavior. American stories feature the husband asking the wife … ' Martha … do we know a Muller?' … That's it! … I sometimes think I have the same connection with some of the folks here in WC.
On the odd occasion … I meet someone from the future … but I am unable to respond … because of the specialization … of my qualities … in the present. Its the same problem I had with the ex-wife. When a person makes a commitment to his personality … in the present … he is unable to relate … whole heartedly … to his relations … with people who are identified with their personalities … from another time.
Its a matter of some significance … in the management of the self. Our lives are lived with a focus on the present … and to relate with some meaning about the times … as they are now. It is virtually impossible … to cater to relations … with disparate personalities … all at the same time … without experiencing some confusion … in our relations. We rely on the fact that others … will make the effort … to relate to the present as well.
As a young man … my orientation was to the future. That was on account of the rising eros natures … but in doing so … I engaged the personality of my Caucasian friend within. But beyond my teens … as I grew into my own nature and personality … I fell back a little into the past … before regaining ground … to identify myself with the present. I think we all do that … all the time.
The present links the past with the future … and provides us with a sense of purpose and direction. It relates to our survival … love life … and helps us understand why we experience the things we do. Its a great aid for understanding our intent … and the expression they seek … in the lifetime lived. The greatest joy is to come across another … who's cultivated the same way. It creates a sense of true equality … unparalleled … in friendships.
We sometimes … live our lives … with an attachment to a fondness … regarding a special quality in ourself. In consideration of that … we are often attempting to authenticate that … in our personality … for a quaint sense of self-assurance. The fact is … we ought to move on … once we have done that … without lingering … in the fears … that we might lose contact with it again.
The present is a reliable standard … for determining how we view the past and future. At an individual level … that may be experienced either as qualities … or personalities. The experience of the first light … at the beginning of human civilization … continues to be a part of our experience within. It guides us to activity … by stimulating the passions of the past … in the same way that it postulates … the future. These then form … the convictions of the mind … and drives the individual to physical activity.
In observing the phenomenology of the mind … I am convinced … that Newton saw it in exactly the same way. It is a re-statement of the physical laws of motion … to which I wish to add my own view that … its cause and effect … include the passions as well … as the phonon that initiates activity. One part is neutral and simply observes … another positive and is highly responsive … and a third that is negative … that seeks change from the existing condition.
To answer the query in the Upanishad … we'll have to say that … its the negative ions … that causes an expansion … to the experience of the atom. And that is managed by the plus minus condition of the neutron. It plays with the positive and the negative … but remains itself. Its the view that … is proposed by Indic literature … and advises the student to return to his natural born state … after his considerable journeys … of the mind. © 2014 Dayran |
