Cyclops and the Divisions

Changing Perceptions

As the one-eyed giant … Cyclops appeared in the legends as … a master of the passions … delving into the mysterious nature of the human … and helping man … in his early establishment of societies. The quality of such a man continues with us today … from the days of the Mauryan Empire, Rome, The British Empire and the new American leadership. It may have evolved in some ways to a finer experience of intuitive knowledge of the world … knowledge we are all born with as humans.

He draws his strength … from the all encompassing passion … that he brings to bear on everyone. It is a scheme of passion that is without a lid or cover … receiving from the open mind and senses … every suggestion of possibility … and true reflection of the world around us … and stores in the emotions … both subtle and gross … the tender and compassionate feel for all things human. It does this with his mind … and physical body … and the will that gives of itself … both life and limb … for causes.

In the long service to such a cause … the man comes to perceive … through trial and error … the right and true of such a disposition and organizes whole societies … and empires … with that as his raison d'etre. However noble such an outlook causes in us … it also occupies every sinew of love and affection … every subtle suggestion of life … as if to say … its all inclusive. Quite often … it dismisses many other issues … those of the family … and relationships.

In the human … it forms a medicine ball … in the middle of the body … of quick perceptions … summary views and is accompanied by an undeniable will to apply itself to situations. The Mauryan engaged something similar … in his unification of India … and claimed his actions … a world experience … even though confined to the Indian sub-continent. The same trace of unreviewed grandeur … accompanied that of the Romans and the empires that followed.

We appear to have inherited this quality today … in the individual experience … and there are many who'll confess to a similar size of medicine ball … on their person … which is blatantly grandiose and often causes us some embarrassment. There are those who take it into the corporate world … and give it a whirl … or into a professional sports career … stage and movie stars … and of course the political arena. Its like an eye that sees from within … and guides us in our affairs.

Those who have lived the life … always say … they wish they could have done more. To many others … rather than letting it flow like the river of Midas … attempt to create a focus with their quality of the Cyclops. They train it … sometimes by riding it like a bull … and to lead it to specific targets. It is brought into management by inducement to subscribe to the qualities of society … that of the child … or that of faith and perhaps that of knowledge and facts … and in a mix of such qualities.

I had the opportunity to examine it closely recently … as part of my regular review of my own studies. It reminds us of the work of Angels … Dragon Slayers … Saints … Social reformers … Trend setters … and so forth. In the experience of an individual … a force as large as this … is quite an astounding experience. With no new lands to explore … empires to build … mountains to climb … we are left to nurse this medicine ball … with our own improvisations. And it does make suggestions of itself … as an instrument of the world … and as the man of the world.

I had found in my own medicine ball … remnants of past historical experiences … rolled up in its many folds. And then … one day … I entered it … and met the great Cyclops. In a vision … I saw myself walking up an incline … on the bank of a river … that flowed downwards from a small pond. Someone was swimming in the clear waters of the pond. Above the pond was a huge rock … where two children were playing. And then sitting motionless … what I had mistaken for another rock … was an individual in a stiff upright posture. On his face … above the nose was a huge eye that stared motionless at me.

Someone had suddenly come up from behind … so I turned and saw an individual in beard and robe … who resembled an ancient bard. No one spoke … but I could catch the communication …. in intimations. They told me that the person swimming in the water … was the ' Jivan mother ' or the mother of progeny.

That was 7 years ago. A few nights ago … I experienced the greatest ruckus … in what is often my peaceful contemplative episodes. I could feel the words bounce back and forth … and then … it appeared that Cyclops had reappeared … in the form that the Indic refers to as ' Kannan ' … the romantic divine form … with a pair of soft and lovely eyes.

He had transformed … from the burning glare of the passions open to all in the world … and has brought himself … to view the world in parts … and as man. I was astounded. One hears of changes taking place … and quite often realize that these changes we encounter … in these times … are quite intense in the quality of its experience. A legend is passing. We are moving on in our … advancement of civilization.
