Not-So-RidiculousA Story by DayranBut its StrangeI grew up on Indic stories of a superman called Vasudeva … who single-handedly out-maneuvered … and fought thousands of demons … and saved the world from utter chaos. I guess I got to dreaming about that … and my imagination added on to it … and in time … my actions on a daily basis … took on a far greater reality than they actually were. However in growing into adulthood … such thoughts took on a vanity of their own … and caused me some difficulties in working my way away from them.
So these days … when I get a new idea about something … I'm always saying … ' wow! fantastic! … but boy I'm not going to get into that muddle again.' But the dismissal leaves a strange vacuum … and I'm constantly being harassed to give it a try. Yikes! Yeah sure … like a bullet to the head!
However in encountering a new view of the world … one in which … I am dismissing the old rivalries … the bravado of nationhood … and the obsessive search for a way of saying I'm better than others … I find in its place … the not-so-ridiculous notion … that we are all living in some way for each other. It was the good word of the faiths … and today … as I view a map of the world … and my own perceptions of the journey of the soul … on its way to perfection … I am startled … by the incredible balance it creates between love and knowledge … of what we are as humans.
I suppose what I seek is the approval of my peers … and the society that I live in. I've always been steering a careful line between the extremes … and relying on the proper syntax … to say what needs to be said. But to say for instance … that the play of the Gods … is today being played out in the lives of communities … and societies around the world … would take quite a bit to get used to. However in perceiving that … such a play is helping man … to a greater realization and understanding of his nature as human … would help … if folks out there … view it the same way.
At the individual level … we come to take a special perception of the evolving condition of the times … but until we come to convey that … in a social expression … that is suitable … stable … and reflective of these experiences … none of us … at the individual level … will be able to affirm their own experiences. But there is a peculiar nature of difficulty to the exercise.
In the Indic experience … the bards composed the wonderful puranas … that eventually received the adoration of the whole world … but it grew a little wieldy in the minds of the Indic. For as long as the world … subscribed to such principles … they have been forced to isolate themselves … from the world community … for it never stops being a matter of the mind … and imagination … in the experiences. No doubt the situation is somewhat similar in other places.
The problem arises when we view our imagination … and the physical reality … with a certain enforced practice of separation … as if to preserve the truth of each. Perhaps what we need to do is to find a way to manage both … without undue separation … from each other. The will of innocence … is replaced by faith … and then by force … and perhaps later by knowledge. The innocence is conveyed by the stars … through the dreams of the night. Faith by the beauty of the earth … and its hint of paradise. The force of good intentions … often for purposes of social reform … is possibly undertaken by the planets. And knowledge … is the understanding of the love … that is hidden in the actions of our neighbors.
Which brings me back to the not-so-ridiculous … politically correct notion … that Hitler … pushed an obsession to its breaking point … and died doing it. Bringing that backwards to the planets … I'll say that's the sun … sacrificing itself for light … the natural beauty of the earth perishing to build homes ... infrastructure … and grow crops … and then at the level of the stars … the supernova.
In Japan … after the second world war … folks were walking up to tourists … and saying ' So sorry.' And as we reflect on the ways of man over the ages … we come back to see all these in us … as an individual … and we find it difficult to deny … that such are the qualities in all men … but beyond the way of the force … we are today asked to take to knowledge to view the experience. Its hard of course … and its easier to view someone else as a murdering psychopath.
No doubt such a view of the world is a new one … but times are changing … and our children and their children … without the experience of wars … will raise a different view of things to come. Civilization has brought a greater assurance of life … and we find ourselves … wanting to protect that life … unlike conditions in the past … when there were less assurances on that score. But the Indic also views the whole of creation as one man … I wonder how we'll come to see that. Like I said its so not-so-ridiculous. © 2014 DayranReviews
