I ... Man

I ... Man

The Odds & Bits Series : VIII

In reviewing the Indic version of creation … we find the creator God sitting on a lotus … and the source of creation … is just below … in the body of man. There's no doubt that the knowledge of this … was brought to the early seers … in a vision … much like a waking dream. The bards then … had simply reproduced the image … in a description of … what they saw. Today we bring a new perspective to the experience … based on what we have learnt to-date.

The early bards lived in villages … in the forest … and in the decline of the Vedic age circa 1500 BC … applied themselves to discovering … a new way of perceiving their experience. Till then … their knowledge consisted of creating sacrifices … of which the greatest sacrifice was to Agni or fire. The alternative they sought … came into their experience … as stories of specific personalities … and they wrote these down as the Puranas or legends.

Of particular interest … regarding their methodology … is the practice of long periods of isolation from society … and creating a bi-polar relation with a certain ' other ' in their individual experience.  Psychology today identifies that other as the alter ego. It implies that a man can … in situations that are dire … and in a devout attitude to know … unhinge himself from the normal relation to mind and body … and thereafter … view the body's natural working order … from which such visions may be derived.

In what is then perceived as the natural working of the body … the sexual impulse ( eros ) makes contact with the mind and heart … and creates such visions of its wishes … almost childlike in its enthusiasm … in order to see itself in all its possible manifestations. Indic literature presents its communication … without editing its experience … and describes the creation impulse … as ' wanting to see itself.' One can only surmise … with the affirmation by science of the billions of cells in the human body … that they all came together … to draw a picture for man … its created life.

Such a body is what the Indics presented as Vishnu … lying in the creative waters … the many petals of the lotus as epochs in creation … and the creator God …. sitting on the lotus … as the reproductive instrument in creation … responsible for bringing itself into manifestation. In comparison … western versions … represent the experience … of a creator God … in a personal gesture of creation … who created heaven and earth … the animals and plants … and then man … in seven days.

What is significant in our modern experiences today … is in the act of understanding our minds and bodies. And in the most curious encounter … we find re-enactments of the same experiences as before … in and by our very bodies. It boggles the mind … but in reviewing the experience … we realize that … as the created being … the early forces of creation … seek to inform us of our origins. Now? … In this time and age? … While we are still paying the mortgage on the home? Yes.

I wonder when or what it is that we would consider a suitable time. It drew itself on a sense of ' I ' … and logically I figure its saying … its the most natural thing. Its a matter of time … before we create the acclimatization to it. The legends hint at the fact that … at separate times … it engaged the bodies of both men and women. Where these may have engaged its significant ' other ' … one can only wonder at how that represented … a complete self-sufficient experience … in just one-half of the gender experience. No doubt … its effects … are plain in society today. God it appears … may have had a sense of humor.
