The Quick Study : PrologueA Story by Dayranby DayranIn viewing the involvement of the mind of man in the evolutionary advancement process … it brings us back to the basic principles of evolution … adaptation … social dynamics … and self understanding. In that it refers to the emerging experience of the ' quick study ' … that's the ability to size up a situation quickly … bring attention to it … and persuade everyone to get involved.
A typical quick study situation may refer to an individual who's moved into a new job environment … and needs to adapt to conditions there quickly. Such a person needs to have a quick view of the lay of the territory … the principles of social union … the membership of the social circle … and an affirmation of the basic principles.
In a production facility … a quick tour of the premises … identifying the administrative area … the store … jobbing … assembly area … quality control … testing … packaging … canteen and so forth puts the individual in a physical relation to the environment. Next … if they work in marketing … to come to grips with the product … product range … comparisons with competitors … market shares … territories covered … issues … and R & D.
Meeting with the marketing staff … manager … assistants … execs … weekly routines … meetings … becomes the concern … before delving into the job function and responsibility … that the individual is taking up. In a lack lustre situation … if the product is doing poorly … folks are losing motivation … the individual can reach out to get things moving … and in the process … himself.
He does this with an attention grabber … a new styled haircut … that gets everybody to look at him. Thereafter he needs to move quickly to moderate any outrage over his haircut … he's got one chance each time he speaks to anybody … and he's got to make it count. With that he brings his relations to moderation … creates a refinement of intent … gets into relation … and goes to work.
Thereafter … in the intermediate term … he establishes a consistency in behaviour … presents an attitude … works on product issues … sales performance … staff motivation … and performance reviews. If he manages that in 3 " 6 months … he still has 6 months in that first year to show what he can do with sales. Staff cohesiveness would occupy a great deal of his attention … ensuring that everybody stays involved … and maintains an attitude that affirms the targets to be achieved.
The key to success in adaptation … is in re-connecting with people … and he does that with an eye on his own individual qualities … the way he positions himself with each value … aesthetics … duty orientation … producing results … quick responses to situations. These are all hallmarks of a successful adaptation to a new environment or lifestyle. On the Friday six-pack with the boys he may come to reflect on his progress … and see his role in the great imperative of evolution of the specie … and to know that everybody is on it. © 2013 Dayran |
