The Organics of Change

I get comments from time to time that society in general resists change. That ought to be put in context. Our societies were established for stability of purpose so that we may manage our politics, economics and survival. Capital values invested take time to depreciate … someone invested in a factory to produce cotton clothing will resist the move to synthetic. So will the suppliers, employees and management.

A better appreciation of this allows the individual seeking change to integrate with the existing values of the society. There he'll realize that any change undertaken is achieved by first providing solutions to its former condition and then transforming it into the new.

In the past, leadership created forceful and sudden changes with a vain eye on the accolades of triumph. These days a responsible public media ensures a communication of changes to the masses and has them create responses. That can work both ways.

Real change does not rely on haste. Change is possible only on a platform of stability of the society. Otherwise our best intentions for change can lead to chaos. But how does real change take place?

In the dreams of the masses. Initiatives engaged for advancement rely on a cyclic pattern of dream, desire, sense perceptions, testing and physical reality. For instance, with a dream of better mental health, we respond to it with our want and assist in moving the idea forward with possibilities, thereafter we visualize the new health condition in existence in society and gauge the satisfaction we feel. Testing involves raising the possibility with our peers for their views. Finally we engage our institutions for applying themselves to the ideas through up-dating their understanding of psychology, humanities, medical treatment, fashion, values etc.

The acceptance by society for the initiative may lead proposals to amend laws, new structures in employment, social programs … and source new initiatives for products like cheaper smart technologies for the home, nanotech, robotics and bio-organic applications.

To inspire the dream may be the greatest challenge to bring about effective and well paced change. This is done best by the oldest tool in the world … ' word of mouth.' A word from someone convinced of the suitability of change and experiencing it themselves is the best instrument for trust. To do so we cultivate patience, understand the resistances and pass on the knowledge to our children. Its the way its always been done.
