I guess its not surprising. If the major Arcana refers to man as a fool then depicting the world as a ' floosie,' seems hardly out of line. In the wrong hands such a severe view builds the greatest moral rectitude that is reminiscent of a bad case of anal retention.

Science comes to the rescue of such attitudes by pointing out that our early knowledge of the world was largely axiomatic. It implies the need to live such attitudes and find out the truths for ourselves.

It appears on observation and personal reflection that the man may have deliberately created a disguise of being the fool … particularly in an environment of assumed moral rectitude. The woman on the other hand affirms the behavior of the fool and is herself the instrument of satire in exposing the false virtues of mankind.

However the imperatives of survival has so mixed the qualities together that we are at the point of studying the phenomenon in a state of moral exhaustion and at a loss for virtue to address the issues face on. We put on an attitude.

We are reminded at this time of the nature of fallen angels, their attempts to rise again and the admonishment that the ' devil is a deceiver.' Our social attitudes these days view these conditions with skepticism and raise the most profound inquiries. The institutions of faith respond by saying that ' God permits the free will of man.' In putting it all together a man is bound to say that the stew has the most curious taste in the mouth.

I think I might have smiled to myself when I first encountered this in my teen years. I still smile but if not for the poignant nature of life, death and the struggles of the working man, I might laugh out loud. The daily encounters a person has these days with the ' forming ' nature of social attitudes draws on a great deal of sympathy. We can but play our part in it … no less … no more.
