The Mind of LoveA Story by DayranThe Complete News Series : VIThere are many stories that came out of the gandava ( bards ) forests of India. This one ( adapted ) I wish to relate concerns the Indic belief that our lives are lived with two life sources … one that is human ( atman ) and another which is the advanced specie of the future ( paramathman ). In Siva's family, the mother dotes on the older boy, who is human but the second child is a little different … he makes no gender preference, has his own mind and stays as a teen throughout his life.
But as the second child grows up without relation to father and mother, he is caught in a maelstrom of rage and jealousy about the attention received by the older brother. He walks out of the family.
The father pursues the boy and tells him that he is not their son. According to the father, the boy is the scion of the early people who were so perfectly beautiful that every man who was born into the world fell in love with them and perished. In the legend of Zeus, Semele, the mother of Dionysus sees the perfection of Zeus and perishes. As a result the early people decided on their own volition to diminish their beauty and allow for the human specie to develop. The child then saw into his own nature and realized who he was.
The storyline is corroborated by yet another story in Indic legend that is a source of a puzzle in our lives today. The father of all gurus, the sage Vasishtha, a human factor, once sat to ponder on the origins of life. However as he grew in perfection, he attracted all manner of distraction in the form of beautiful maidens. He asked his student Rama to ward off the influences … which Rama did.
Vasishta thereafter attained a perfection of thought that helped advance the Indic study of creation. However Rama had seen into the nature of Vasishta's perfection, he contracted a powerful condition in which he only found love in his guru. This to my mind may be the origin of the curious condition of same sex love that we seem to encounter today. In other legends, the knight Lancelot comes to feel the same about King Arthur.
I wish to add at a personal level my own experience in the matter. Having taken the initiative to guide with the learning of a man 20 years my junior, here in Malacca, he intimated to me 2 days ago that he was struggling with feelings for me. I think I may have guided him to do the right thing … the next few days will tell for sure.
Quite frankly, it wasn't until the gay issue emerged in the US did the Indic come to view the stories of his traditions directly. It has helped in the anticipation of the issues. It has even changed the delicate natures of the stories reported. I have adapted the stories in this narrative from the original to report in the light of our new experiences. I welcome all comments and reviews. © 2013 Dayran |
