Is He or Isn't He

It must be a sign of the times. My classmate from school confessed to me after we had gone to work that he was gay. My room mate in college opened up during a drinking session to say he's gay. I didn't know what to make of it then and now … but I know this … they are the two nicest friends I ever had.

 

In retrospect my ambition had been my guiding principle in life … I wanted to experience everything life had to offer … I wanted to see the world and I wanted to satisfy a deep set impulse in me about my self worth. I didn't stop to ponder on gender issues.

 

What do I think of it today? To respond to that I need to take a look again at gender identities. The Indic art of language refers to one aspect of the female as ' Visalakshi ' interpreted as ' the witness who sings.' In comparison, the male is ' Jaimini ' or ' a bird who speaks in collusion.'

 

In a final analysis the female would be reported as being more true in song compared to the male who reports on life in words. The earlier is spontaneous and is the basis of memories, the latter helps to create a view and  gives form to our experiences. Indic studies went on to name the song version as sankhya and the form version as yoga.

 

To engage either of these qualities it is important for the integrity of its purpose that we do so with the right physical body. To mix the two indiscriminately makes for an adventure but it doesn't bring a song or contact with life. It does however remain a useful lesson.

 

The sophists call her Sophia. In the calm genius of the individual, call it the gnosis if you will, they meet and ponder on each other's continuing growth in the life.  In the process they create a sharing for each other which when experienced in a life on two feet feels a little like ships that pass in the night. Its horses with blinkers … sometimes with a curiously suggestive manner about which is the true male quality.

 

Speaking with a male bias here I can say that its a deeply satisfying and profound understanding of the self  but only in the contextual view of what is relevant to a human male … not the gods, nor anima, nor the songs of the future specie of being. A male is necessarily nerdy and biopic in nature. It wouldn't be male otherwise.
