Fables from The Quick Brown Fox : XI

( Its a bright sunny day below a sky that's azure blue. Brown Fox and Lazy Dog are in the Club Garden. There's a discernible sound of insects in the background.)

Lazy Dog : Did we have to come here now? I'm feeling an urge to bury something.

Brown Fox : Oh … cheer up will ya! Its a bright colorful day … I needed this about now.

Lazy Dog : Will you look at that? … the caterpillars are eating up the ' Golden Shower ' leaves.

( They move closer to take a look. )

Caterpillar : Hi fellas … isn't it a great day?

( Lazy Dog moans.)

Brown Fox : It sure is … how're you doing?

Caterpillar : Just fine … its a great time to be born but we'll have to go into pupae soon … summer's around the corner and we got work to do on the flowers.

( They are visited by some butterflies, grasshoppers and lady bugs. Lazy Dog gives off a short burst of barking.)

Grasshopper : Why does he do that?

Brown Fox : Its his passions … he was trained for the hunt and he cannot tolerate too close an endearment to soft cuddly things and situations.

( A rabbit dashes past them and Lazy Dog takes off after it.)

Butterfly : How come you are not doing that?

Brown Fox : We hunt to eat and survive. They feed us at the Club so I know I don't have to. Lazy's lost his wild instinct so his mind plays tricks on his habits.

Lady Bug : He's going to wear himself out.

Brown Fox : That would be new for him … he needs that.

( A cool wind blows into the garden. It picks up the pollen and fragrances and flows gently around the garden. The gardener, working on the roses, straightens up suddenly and surveys the scene. A smile appears on his face.)
