The Romance of the Highwayman

The Romance of the Highwayman

A highwayman is not a robber. Far from it, when he commands the traveler to ' stand and deliver, ' he draws on the greater intrinsic experience of the Celts that was primal nature to the early Franco-Germanic experience. They call on life, as the travelling soul to deliver to them their part of the heritage of the world. They do so with an easy expectation, like a play, as if its in keeping with their rights under the covenant we have with each other.

Such is the life of the magi, in an early part of human development. It is the experience of the Muladior or the gnosis of the Zeitgeist. It responds to the call of the impulses as the mother of the Eternal Being. She may have begun her career as the Gorgon that Perseus slew or thought he did. She may have since come to a greater civilizing experience as the Goddess, as much as man has developed a civility of the romantic impulse.

The empire builders of Great Britain may continue to see themselves in that role but where there is a greater objectivity in their affairs, they may refer to it as a shared relation with the collective will of the world, brought to them from within. No doubt it may have been referred to as from God.

We are at this time facing such suggestions in many places and the fragmented nature of societies and individual lives around the world are a reflection of that. The distrust between people of the same persuasion, the doubts that arose between social groups, between gender, same sex relations, children and their parents are all in some way symptoms of an experience that begins in the core of our individual being as it refines itself for the life ahead. Apparently it has always been doing that.

Historically, many nations and their people no longer exists today. The Sumerians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Phyrigians and recently the Romans and the Ottoman saw a part of themselves diminish in the growing experience of the world and have since taken on new identities. We hear of tribal wars, breakaway states and military actions in places around the world and we shelf that as an old quarrel still stirring restlessly.

We are today, in a satellite based family relation as one world and seem assured that the past will not repeat itself. Certainly not in the same way. We seek now to create a determination of our natures in a stable and durable way. To the highwayman, life is a long romance with possibilities where he is used to get what he wants by the elegant intelligence he brings to play with people. Such is the way some folks choose to see life, with its promises, expectations, abandon to risks and the thrill of the chase. It is a love affair with the world. It is a signature Eros quality.

I found this very interesting, you write the most fascinating articles on a great many subjects, which usually take me a long time to internalise, but when I do the reward is always several gems. Enjoyed. bye for now. Trish.
