Journeys of Eros : PrologueA Story by DayranThere are moments when I look at a map of the constellations, note their positions in the heavens and grow faint from seeing how they represent an orderly journey of sorts. How they may have begun at Cassiopeia and then traveled counter-clockwise around the universe in a life of discoveries, destruction and rebirth into something even grander.
In returning back to her they bring the promise of a renewal of her self from fantasy to reality. There can't be many different ways that that is done. It will combine the experience of metamorphosis with the secret knowledge of the passions to wake up someday like a sleeping beauty or the ugly duckling to discover a beauty in reality she never knew.
In the context of the world's experience in the last 500 years there are reflections of such a perception that form the basis for our views of society. It is a collective phenomenon which gives words to our experiences, forms our thoughts, creates relations and eventually comes to cultivate a picture of humanity a certain way that reflects in our feelings.
It is as if the romantic highwayman of the English countryside grew into the experience of adventurer in the rocky mountains and then the truly feminine in the South Pacific from where it revolved to the erstwhile gardener in the Orient, the singing troubadour in the Himalayas and returned as the pleasure seeking dervish back to a countryside whose life resonates with the world.
The experience of eros is as an impulse, a vision, a trace of affection, knowing, hope, expectation, conjecture, dreams and what philosophy sometimes refers to as the field of all possibilities. Such an experience is in us and that is what many a bearded swamy exhorts his students with ' its in you.' It would explain why we appear to have lost it on occasion and then rediscover it again.
I sometimes get glimpses of a mysterious stranger in the midst of these experiences who may storm like hurricanes, lives and let lives at other times and on rare occasions even appears as the life eternal. But he doesn't speak much, leaving it to the human to name, define and articulate his own experience. It appears to me sometimes that these are his journeys that he shares with us on the field of possibilities.
