I first met him in the days of peasantry

A young man, built strong and majestic

Spent his days in the fields and hills

Immersed himself in the splendours be

It was the beginning of the farmer kings

We who toiled the fields for mankind's kin

The farmer brought life to the community

Was the life giver and protector of family

Chorus :

He was the hero of the people

Fought to build a community

Too proud to bend to change

Chained to a will that was lame

He was raised as King thereafter

Indra the mighty lord of the world

The people, they began to worship him

Held on devotedly to his every word

Indra they said brought rain from skies

Was the milk that flowed from breasts

Indra brought life to the new born calves

He was the sun that gave people sight

Soon everyone was the child to him

He the father who knew what's best

Young men grew up to be the man

And to have King Indra as the mind

Chorus :

He was the hero of the people

Fought to build a community

Too proud to bend to change

Chained to a will that was lame

The crops failed one fateful day

The people cowed and feared the worst

But Vasu the cowherd rallied them

To throw off the hegemony of Indra

Indra decried the rebellious mob

Threw all manner of storms at them

Vasu bade them focus on their will

And fought off Indra's mighty wrath

The farmers returned to their fields

And began to rework the land anew

With minds that was free of chains

Free men relying on their brains

Chorus :

He was the hero of the people

Fought to build a community

Too proud to bend to change

Chained to a will that was lame
