A Wish to TestA Story by DayranSongs from Family Stories : II
I grew up with the bunch
You know the type
Eager and enthusiastic
Forging friendships to last
Then the winters came suddenly
We went our different ways
I reached out to the world
A promise I thought would last
Chorus :
Didn't know what to expect
Followed the rule there was
Trading my skills for a living
Thought it was all it was
Came upon a twister on the road
In a long and weary climb to the top
Thought perhaps I should step aside
But decided I would test my wily best
I moved forward and walked into it
It bucked and twisted, groaned and yelled
I held on for what seemed like years
My personality was torn to
shreds
Chorus :
Didn't know what to expect
Followed the rule there was
Trading my skills for a living
Thought it was all it was
It landed me in places I didn't know
My mother's childhood, my father's ancestry
The wife, her place of divine magic
My child, her romantic love of hopes
I handled it all, my mind in tunes of right
Then it came up to see me on the road
What was yet unborn and totally unknown
Stripped my mind of all that I knew
It fell on me like a giant tree uprooted
The sound like a roar in the stormy skies
Said it was here before Adam and Eve
But had lost its way in the wayward winds
Chorus :
Didn't know what to expect
Followed the rule there was
Trading my skills for a living
Thought it was all it was
I climbed out of the laden debris
I let fall what was useless to me
Rewrote the book of life I knew
Took to wife the wish I'd brewed
Came to realize then life's own wishes
To renew itself after a journey of ages
To discover in itself its self creation
Then to lead itself to futures untrodden
Chorus :
Didn't know what to expect
Followed the rule there was
Trading my skills for a living
Thought it was all it was
