Songs from Family Stories : Prologue

"

I was born in a valley

Between two huge mountains

Parents, as they are called,

Said they loved me,

Promises I had a plenty,

My life a rich forest of dreams,

To wish and to find fulfilment,

Its promises I took to be real,

Chorus :

Learn to give a little

Bring something of yourself

The world's an oyster,

Give in order to receive,

Love beckoned me to the depths,

And I packed a bag to follow,

It caught me in its arms,

But only tossed me to the willows,

I rose again years later,

Much the wiser but bitter,

Tasted the fruit of borrowing,

Realized I didn't like it at all,

Chorus :

Learn to give a little

Bring something of yourself

The world's an oyster,

Give in order to receive,

And so I built the world anew,

Brick by brick and then the walls,

And I rose to the loft of the home,

And then I saw, the life that was born me,

I am my maker, I am that born,

I live for my joys, my pleasures,

The world is as one individual,

Different parts in different nations,

I embrace the world with acceptance,

Give birth to the parents I love,

I will be born again from time to time,

And I'll live them all with love.

Chorus :

Learn to give a little

Bring something of yourself

The world's an oyster,

Give in order to receive,
