In a courtroom they always make the accused face the judge face to face. However in reference to the jury they make the person face them sideways. Its simply a matter of room design, space, orientation of issues and the mind. However in such a small act of modern amenity we incur a great discernment in the way the law applies justice.

In many instances of cases, the judge comes to disagree with the jury from the point of law. However the jury brings about a different view and verdict. This raises cries of justice gone awry but it cannot be further from the truth.

Our condition as humans engages us in the greatest challenge of managing opposites in our lives that permeates through our words, actions, right and wrong in any given situation. Our actions in law are performed with rationality and self control in relation to the dictates of the passion that sometimes overwhelm us.

These days we encounter such passions with a mind that's awoken to the light of the sun and moon. We want to know more details, we ask questions and we generally make inquiries that can sometimes question the very basis of the intention of creation. But we are creating new perspectives and we seek to validate them without too much excuses.

Its not an act. Its founded on the way that our relations with parents, spouses, children and friends have come to shake us to the roots on issues. There's a child, about one year old, in a restaurant nearby that I visit for home cooked styled food. All the customers and neighbouring shopkeepers come by to pick up the kid and sometimes take him away for an hour or so. The young mother, who works with the child on her hips, pays no mind. And the kid always returns fresh and perky.

I sit at a table and ponder on the over-stimulation the child receives and the way that may reproduce itself in his experience later. I wonder whether a jury would look sideways at him and ponder on his natural affinity and eye for activity, talk and social glory. Who knows, maybe they will.
