Tales of the Fairground : VI

A breeze blew across the fairgrounds and lifted hats and skirts as much as leaves and tent canopies. Like Shakespeare's tale of the tides, it promised a continuity of movement that contributes to good fortune and maybe sometimes a downfall. The literature of the world provides ample views of this experience, be it good will or good faith.

Over the years we have made a subscription to one or the other of such views where that might be from our friends, the school we went to or the people we worked with. It most cases we picked the one view most suited to our temperament.

As a result a personality becomes a fertile pond of views and perceptions. Like a wetland fed by a mountain stream, it spawns all manner of entities and denizenry. American movies, made by Americans are possibly the best expression of the veritable natures in human behavior. Everybody loves a good story. And we have stories about those who don't, as much as about people who do. And that makes us feel that we are watching a double matinee sometimes.

In the rides section of the fair, the child encounters the many different ways that the human body is taken on rides. But the mind holds onto the reins in a picture of decorum about itself. From the pendulum swinging dreamboat, the roller coasters, the ferris wheel and the dodgem cars, each may be transformed into a behavioral situation in daily life, at work or at play.

Handling a double matinee can be an awesome experience for some. The swamys, mullahs, mystics, philosophers and ascetics apply themselves rigorously to the tasks. The American way, in a spontaneous expression of the same, applies itself on occasion to mountain scaling as if that is an equivalent. And sometimes it is.

You can take that to the house of good faith or to the bank of good will. It a person's priviledge and right to do so at the times he may decide to do that.
