Going to the Fair

Tales of the Fairground : I

Has anyone noticed that father and mother always get into an argument just before going to the fair? It may be because father expects to be disturbed by the experience. Mother on the other hand seems blissfully content.

A child enjoys the fair. It takes the child away from the civil intensity of household life and introduces something in the physical environment that seems reminiscent of the child's growing experiences of the world.

At the entrance to the fair, the child spots the head of a King sculptured above on the gate. However greeting them as they enter the fairgrounds is a man in a clown suit and a painted smile upon his face. In a spontaneous response to the sensations produced by the images, the child shies away to hide behind his mother, the King, while his father in an unpainted smile, tries to hide his mood.

It would appear, in this sketch we have created, that there is a mysterious force of governance, managing mother's state of mind, that is today no longer father. Father may well be looking to the heavens from today to find a new identity. Its possible that he may encounter his childhood hero, the man of many faces.

He may recall this today, amidst the dishevelled nature of his retirement from active work. But I figure he would know his old friend if he met him again.
