The Day Perfection DiedA Story by DayranTales of the Heart's Intimations : IThe heart intimates and the mind peruses. Where the mind is so ordered, it doesn't pursue the heart into fantasy and when it doesn't do that it finds in its revelation, a little of where we might have been or will be. It is for the mind to be its own assessor of the possible and the true. Such are the moments when we encounter the dead zone or some such place that is beyond rock bottom. It is a place unlike any other and an investigative mind wonders about its origin. Is it simply an attitude of shell shock? Dementia? Paranoia? Or the wordless cry from a mouth that can only curve itself into a zero. No, it won't respond to friendliness or humor. It stares from a face that doesn't reveal any emotion, simply the sense of the unexpected. It asks for no pity or sympathy. It displays a pride and a sense of lost joy in its willfulness. And then the mind realizes that it fears for us, as if we are but fools in the face of a nature that is highly benevolent but can in its darkest moments be totally cruel. It arose from the apocalypse at the end of time, it intimates gradually. An apocalypse that occurred after the most perfect species came into existence in the universe. That which we adored as all of what we can be, the ultimate joy of ourselves, the Utopia of the heavens .... that which contained no further desire for improvement. It was perfect. And then the universe went into annihilation. One part of that which we are, stores a piece of such a memory .... the moment when the inexplicable happened to the ultimate species, the final perfection .... but surely it was meant to have an end? And then for the universe to begin a new cycle? I make this argument to it and I remind it that we are eons away from such an experience today. Whatever's stored in it is but a remnant of the past. It is comforted by such comments. But just in case, I keep my communication to the physical and the present time and I try to avoid thoughts of perfection and timelessness. It does go into a relapse. © 2012 Dayran |
