A Young EntrepreneurA Story by DayranTales of College Days : VI
He was a second year student when he first came to my attention. Spritely, bright and full of optimism is how anybody would have described him. In the next two years he had set up an internet lounge and a mini RC Racing Track close to the college.
When I met him on a routine counselling session, he was working on his third project for after graduation.
The basic issue with companies all over the world today is to convert from a ' production orientation ' to marketing. That is the most basic of all issues in corporations today. They all come from a creative-engineering approach of thinking up products and the discovery is so passionate with them that they suspend all other considerations in a head-long-dive into an investment to produce the product and hope that customers would have the interest to buy.
Our young entrepreneur sat across the table from me and rattled off a list of several other projects that he had in mind for the future. As I sat there, I saw a young man who viewed the marketing program he had enrolled in as the perfect method and way of thinking for anyone to succeed. It represented to him the door to the world of success and no one was blocking the way.
In that, he didn't appear to me as naive, merely that he believed everything that he read or was taught to him without any reservations. He brought his heart and mind to the lesson. Certainly, to believe is the key to any endeavor. His two on-going projects were breaking even.
His next project was a cosmetic product that utilized live cultures. I reminded him on the need to undertake a proper business plan.
