Self-knowledge has a curious way of going around in circles. It first intimates to us our own special part in the cultivation and naming of our will to the life that we live....that we are self determinative in what we do....that one's destiny is shaped by one's own will and knowledge. In assuring us of this, it also persuades us to exercise the greatest concern in the fair and proper sharing of our goodwill with others.

It appears to us then that we choose the things that take place in our lives. Where we encounter an ill-fortune, we do not detract from the fact that we are self determinative, but we inquire as to why we chose such an event.

The fact that such choices are not immediately known to us must cause us some curiousity and raise the need to investigate. In such an endeavor, is born, the science of human insight and the understanding of the self.

In some part of the process of self discovery, it is intimated to us that the knowledge of the universe and of the self is within all of us. It is dormant in some, awake in others but for most it is in some form of being active in our lives.

A simple test that we sometimes apply to ourselves is to ask whether we understand ourselves. We do this before we apply our observations of what others say about us. In a normal situation, the two perspectives should be entirely consistent. And for all those times when we experience a unique and profoundly special sensation of ourselves, we may ascribe that to the Isis moon. It is a special nature of self praise we experience from the life impulses that create an approval of our actions in a way as to indicate self love.

From the Egyptian civilization to where we are today, we have relied on such an intrinsic quality to guide our lives and our societies. We have done this without having all the facts of what we do and the implication of our actions. And yet we have managed ourselves not too badly.

Such acceptance that we create of this internal will has commonly come to be perceived as the attitude of the great mother, a generic term for the quality of concern in us as humans. It takes a mother, with her mix of knowledge and other possibilities, to manage the constantly changing experiences of our lives and keep it stable. We may find her in ourselves and quite often realize that she is that store of lives in the past as much as in the future. But we need to give ourselves the opportunity to do so.
