As an American; As a Woman

As an American; As a Woman

A Poem by Christy Hauck
"

For Ryan. Please come home safe.

"

As an American, I do not fear the sound of a plane engine over head

As a Woman, I do fear the sound of a scream from a darkened ally

As an American, I have freedom

As a Woman, my freedom is stunted due to male domain

As an American, I only speak one language fluntely and happily

As a Woman, I speak with my heart in the langauge of emotions

As an American, I am paid above "minimum wage"

As a Woman, I will always be paid less than a man

As an American, I am viewed as a sex manic

As a Woman, I am viewed as a s**t

As an American, I know my family and friends are safe in their homes at night

As a Woman, I will never know if I am safe when I am alone

As an American Woman...

Will there ever be no prejudice?

I think the first part is weak, so if anyone has any idea how to strengthen it...

i do not have any ideas how to strengten...
but i just wanted to say that i like the way you put the two different views of who you are
and i like how you combine them in the last stanza
i believe that you will be able to make it "strong" in your own ways
