Memory Dance

Memory Dance

A Poem by Dawn

I dance for Joy

the full Moon shining above me

I dance for sorrow

my body moving to the rhythm of the night

I dance for life

the breeze brushing my heated skin with cool caresses

I dance for death

the starry sky wheeling above me.

You were here

and now you are gone

Time wheeling around

spinning you away from me

I circle and spin

memories surround me as I move through the night

I laugh, arms flung wide

would you condemn me for the laughter?

You would have cried

the tears easy and cleansing for you

But they were never easy for me

I laugh, even as the moisture gathers in my eyes.

Tears sliding down in twin rivers

cooling streaks on my flushed cheeks

I dance in sorrow

Time spinning onward

I dance in joy

memories of you flashing through my mind

I dance the night through

till dawn touches the eastern horizon

I stand still

as the first fingers of light spear the starry sky

The night is gone

but memory remains

My dance is done.
