The Melbourne CupA Poem by David Lewis PagetA little humour never goes astray. That's it, I quit! I'm through, straight up! Once more, I flunked the Melbourne Cup!
I'll go and sit where dunces sit,
And swear this time that that is it!
That bloody horse that weaved on through
To snatch the cup, some name like 'View',
I never even saw it there
It wasn't on the list, I swear!
I think they subbed it in at dawn
So punters wouldn't know its form,
Then hid it 'til the race was run
Confusing almost everyone.
Now every year it's been the same
Since 'Think Big' blew them all away,
They suck us in to have a punt
Then pull them, and let through a runt.
It's one great big conspiracy
To part me from my shekel tree,
But that's the end, and that I swear...
(I wonder who will win next year?)
