The Deepest CutA Poem by David Lewis PagetHave ever you looked and seen the smile I hold inside for you,
Or caught the glow of the candlelight
I keep reflected too,
I’ve heard it said that a man can keep
His feelings locked in lies,
But truth shines out in a thousand ways
From the lovelight in his eyes.
I’d never have let you see the soul
I bare so shamelessly,
If I hadn’t been caught so unprepared
As I wandered aimlessly,
I found myself in an empty room
Locked out of your vacant stare.
Drinking the essence of cinnamon wine
And the scent of your fragrant hair.
It’s ever the way of love, sweet love,
To take a man aback,
To bring on home to the emptiness
Fulfilment sadly lacked,
But the deepest cut is the certainty
That after the first surprise,
He’ll never put out of his mind again
The truth in a woman’s eyes.
