Cast No Dark Shadows

Cast No Dark Shadows

A Poem by David Lewis Paget

Cast no dark shadows,

Leave me enlightened,
Watch for my darkness and
Hold me when frightened,
Let your love follow me
Along to my fall;
Keep no false secrets but
Tel me them all.

Say all you have to say,
Leave nought unsaid,
One morning early you
May find me dead,
I need your everything to
Take in my mind,
Give of your loveliness and
All that you find.

Let there be nothing left
Unsaid when you find me,
God, how I love you and
Need you behind me,
Let me take loneliness
Away from your grief;
Cast no dark shadows, and
I’ll be your thief.
