The Dog 'Sat' on the Tucker Box

The Dog 'Sat' on the Tucker Box

A Poem by David Lewis Paget

As I was driving slowly by

Some Gundagai or other, I
Was heard to sigh, or make remark
‘The Tucker Dog has lost his bark "
His bite as well, (or so they tell),
Which probably is just as well
And other nasty habits which
Are said to ruin sandwiches!’

If I were known as Bullock Jack
And some dog on my tucker ‘sat’,
I’d not be raising marble slabs
But rather hell, the roof, red rags.
And when that dog had done his bit,
(That word, I dare not mention it),
I’d ram that sandwich where no rabbit
Ever crawled, to cure the habit!

There's a story behind this I donot know, but I'm sure I'd do the same as you, whether I were known as "Bullock Jack" or not.
