What Small Dream I?

What Small Dream I?

A Poem by David Lewis Paget

This dream has ravelled at the edge

Of darkness, since the world turned once,
Before me and behind me
When my spark flared
And dark dared me to ignite!
But the world totters, shattered by
The speed of dreams fulfilled,
And skilled in skills
Not of my delight!

What small dream I, in its
Entirety, could fly in the face
Of fortune, when odds
Greater than eternity
Turn at my cross
And fling life’s laurels
At the dreams of other gods?
