Autumn's MourningA Poem by Scott Wolfskill6th poem in the album Plea from the Dark, written 5/6/14.Red leaves. The barren
trees. A lost
cause. A forsaken
land.
Time and
time again Nature repeats
itself. We bud and
blossom, And then we
die.
We believe
in our hearts That what we
accomplish has meaning. Yet in the
end disappointment lies.
Can it
really be true That we
labor and toil for nothing? Autumn
strips our leaves, And Winter
gives us her cold embrace.
Even as a
sapling We were
doomed to this hollow life. This futile
cycle cannot last forever.
When our
hope runs dry And our
roots turn to stone Our only
solace is in each other.
We can’t
endure much longer. I long for
the fading sun. Let it be
finished. End our
misery. © 2015 Scott Wolfskill |
