When I Was a Little Boy

When I Was a Little Boy

A Poem by David Smothers

When I was a little boy
Just a little boy
I'd look up to the sky to see
Who created me?

I wondered who'd protect me
Wouldn't be my daddy
Who would consider me?
Who would stop my enemy?

Why was my life confusing?
What were all the answers?
Who could tell me?
Who would think of me?

What's that voice inside ?me
Is it you God, can I see?
Through the stars in the sky
Through the birds that fly

Your name is the highest
The highest of all
That you'd even consider me
Even though I'm so small

Am I better than the creatures?
The creatures of the sea?
Am I greater than anything
That you'd here me sing?

Your majesty and wonder
Created a fire inside of me
A creature of light you have made
Help me be what you want in me

I reach for glory and honor
Amongst the people around me
But my own hands fall so short
I'll follow your mercy

Am I better than the creatures?
The creatures of the sea?
Am I greater than anything?
That you'd here me sing
